The lecture introduces the concept of "fingerprints" for representation materials (molecules and crystals) in a mathematical vector space. In the lecture, some general aspects of fingerprints are discussed and examples of specific fingerprints are introduced. The method of principal component analysis is introduced as a simple technique for feature reduction.
